The Sustainable Business Network NYC
SBNYC is the first network to organize, support and grow local sustainable business in New York City. Launched in January 2008, SBNYC already has over 60 member businesses! All SBNYC members are locally-owned and operated within one of the five boroughs and are committed to supporting the development of a socially responsible and environmentally responsible city.

Establishing a Clear & Profitable Vision
taken from Values Sell by Nadine A. Thompson & Angela E. Soper
part of the Social Venture Network Book Series

1. Think about how your vision and product combined can improve your customers' business or personal lives. Keeping a compelling story and vision in the forefront of your sales efforts can help you move your business forward. You can use this strategy to relay the message about why your product is worth purchasing and help motivate your sales force.

2. Align your vision with your community's interests. If your vision has roots in benefiting your community, find ways to develop win-win situations that will improve your community while building stronger sales or distribution methods.

3. Be open to adjusting your vision as your business grows. Remember that defining (or redefining) who you are won't happen overnight. Let the changes you're making be a symbol of what you are and plan to become, and use these changes to drive your sales in new directions.

4. Align every aspect of your business with your core values to help drive sales. Know who and and what you are as a business and business leader. As you devise new sales strategies and create new ways to distribute your products, your values will keep you on a steady course and help you through the rough times.

Member Spotlight

www.indigohandloom.com

Indigo Handloom grew out of journalist–turned-designer Smita Paul's lifelong passion for Indian textiles. With little environmental impact, handloom is good for the earth and society as well. The Indigo Handloom collection uses a selection of organic and vegan silks, and many of the dyes are vegetable based. The weavers produce the hand-spun cloth on ancient looms, some of which are more than 300 years old - which require only the energy of the weaver. This unique skill is handed down from father to son for generations and in some areas of India, entire villages are involved in the weaving process. Indigo Handloom helps sustain their environment and family-oriented way of life. The simple act of buying this clothing impacts the lives of people on the other side of the world. Each piece of Indigo Handloom clothing is inspired by the unique qualities of the cloth used to create it.
